In healthy teeth, gums firmly grip the neck of the teeth. If food lodgement is present between the tooth and gum margin it forms plaque which causes redness , bleeding and swelling of gums.

However, in untreated cases the condition further deteriorates leading to the destruction of the tooth supporting tissues. The condition is then called PERIODONTICS or PYORRHOEA. At this stage the teeth start shaking, where teeth will be unable to withstand chewing forces, pus forms in the gums and foul smell starts from the mouth.

Treatment

1. Non - surgical treatment.

  • Involves scaling and polishing of teeth.
  • Advice once in six months even if you do not have a gum problem
  • 2. Surgical approach :

  • The procedure is called FLAP SURGERY. It is done under local Anaesthesia involving reflection of gums by 2-3 mm and debriding the area. Bone grafting is done in areas of severe bone loss.
