Crowns are frequently placed on teeth required after root canal therapy on molars, premolars or anterior(front) teeth to protect them from fracture.

Two or more teeth on either side of the missing tooth are shaped to receive a bridge.

The need for a crown or a bridge is determined at your consultation appointment by the Gandhi Super Speciality Dental Clinic. A 30-45 minutes. Appointment is scheduled to prepare the tooth and take the measurement of the crown.

Your dentist and laboratory technician at Gandhi Super Speciality Dental Clinic will work together to ensure that a perfect colour match is obtained to your existing teeth.

Crown and bridges can be worn for many years with proper maintenance. Typically a crown or bridge may need to be replaced for the following reasons:

  • Cavities under the crown or bridge.
  • Damage to the crown or bridge, either due to trauma or biting into something very hard.
  • Gum disease, requiring removal of the tooth/teeth holding the crown and bridge.
  • A check up every six months with Gandhi Super Speciality Dental Clinic is advised to ensure the prosthesis is in good shape. There are multiple options available to make a perfect crown or bridge.

    Metal

  • This is the traditional crown, and is usually silver in colour.
  • Gold crowns are also an option in this category.
  • These are used when insufficient clearance space is present between teeth.
  • Metal Ceramic

  • Mostly used for back teeth due to high strength. Metal is made of chrome-cobalt and a layer of ceramic is coated to make it aesthetic.
  • Not advisable for front teeth because the ceramic layer wears off and metal gets exposed in a few years.
  • These are used when insufficient clearance space is present between teeth.
  • Zirconia

  • Highly aesthetic and usually recommended for front teeth.
